Microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves using a small hand-held device to create thousands of tiny injuries to the skin with surgical needles that promote skin repair from the inside out. When combined with professional mesotherapy serums, these channels allow active ingredients to penetrate deeper for faster, targeted, more visible results.
Microneedling is commonly used to improve:
- Signs of ageing, including fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness
- Acne and surgical scarring
- Stretch marks
- Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
- Cellulite and textural irregularities
- Uneven skin tone and pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Dehydrated, dull skin
- Hair thinning and weak hair
- Suitable for face and full body
Does Microneedling Work?
Yes. Microneedling is a clinically supported, non-surgical and non-ablative treatment that helps improve a wide range of skin concerns. It works by stimulating the skin’s natural repair process, encouraging collagen and elastin production. Clinical studies show that microneedling can be as effective as more aggressive treatments such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing when it comes to collagen stimulation without removing the top layer of skin (Jaisal et al 2024)
What are the contraindications?
Microneedling is a very safe treatment, but it is not recommended if you have any of the following:
- Any active infection near the site, or are feeling unwell in any way
- History of abnormal scarring (such as keloid)
- Loose skin (if treating stretch marks)
- A poorly controlled medical condition
- Allergic reactions to local anesthetic
- Bleeding disorders or autoimmune disease
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are taking steroids
- Are taking medicines that affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin
How many treatments are required?
Your practitioner will recommend the number of microneedling treatments required to achieve the desired results. Treatment consists of a series of microneedling procedures with approximately six weeks between them. Commonly four treatments are required.
In the treatment of stretch marks, acne scars and other types of scarring, up to six procedures may be necessary.
